Great Pumpkin Search 2016: Treats and Eats

In this post you’ll find a review on Culver’s Salted Caramel Pumpkin Concrete Mixer, First Watch’s Pumpkin Pie Porridge Breakfast, and Little Debbie Pumpkin Spice Roll.

A week ago I drove through our new Culvers for some comfort food after a rough day and saw a sign for Pumpkin Concrete Mixers.

I had to go big and get the Salted Caramel Pumpkin Concrete Mixer.

Culver’s Salted Caramel Pumpkin Concrete Mixer – Slurpable Pumpkin Pie

My thoughts: Slurpable Pumpkin Pie.

While I saw the caramel swirled on top, I didn’t really taste it or get any big gobs of caramel stuck in the straw, and I definitely did not detect any salt. I have a feeling it was really well blended. It was delicious all the same, very rich and creamy. It tasted like real pumpkin pie, with a beautiful blend of spices. I would absolutely get this again.

Next I have another restaurant find:

I usually cook breakfast every day, but on the rare occasion that I do go out for breakfast First Watch is my top choice. I might have posted about their seriously amazing Pumpkin Pankcake breakfast (and if I haven’t, I will say here that it is the best! Delightful, not heavy or greasy. Just plain good food).

This time I found soemthing new to First Watch’s seasonal lineup: Pumpkin Pie Porridge Breakfast

Doesn’t this just look delicious? Look at that presentation. Cranberries and pepitas (pumpkin seeds) top the bowl of porridge. A little container of maple cream sets on the side as well as an orange muffin with fresh fruit.

Beautiful… But not so tasty.

It was comforting in it’s warmth but lacked in overall flavor. I know it has real pumpkin puree in there, but I think it could have used a bit more spice. Adding the maple cream (all of it) improves the flavor, but I’m on the fence with this one. The muffin (and the extra side of bacon I added) were the best part of this breakfast. I did like the addition of cranberries and pumpkin seeds for texture, but overall I found the flavor lacking. Next time I’ll stick with the pumpkin pancake breakfast, it has never failed me.

Last for this review is something I impulsively purchased from the grocer: Little Debbie Pumpkin Spice Rolls

Little Debbie Pumpkin Spice Rolls Review

No pumpkin in this little treat, plus it’s artificially flavored, which makes it low on my usual list of things I enjoy consuming, but hey, this is for the Great Pumpkin!

These little tiny cakes have a nice spice flavor. If you’re looking for something simple, and don’t care if it has real pumpkin in it, these are okay and will probably go great with coffee. Little ones will probably enjoy these too, if you aren’t too worried about the ingredients.

Overall an okay accompaniment to a bitter coffee or tea, but not my top choice. The Little Debbie Pumpkin Delights are better, as they actually have pumpkin in them (even if they have all the same negative ingredients). If you want something with more pumpkin go with the Delights over the Rolls. But if you’re just looking for a little desert cake with your tea, these will work.

That’s all for today’s post. I am working on some Pumpkin Hacks and a recipe for Pumpkin Mochi Cake (which was so good).

Are you doing your own pumpkin search? Have you found anything amazing, or even something down-right spooky? I would love to here your experiences in the comments below.

Looking forward to more pumpkin delights and hopefully no frights.

Until Next Time
