Great Pumpkin Search 2015 is Underway!

It’s September.

For  many this means looking forward to leaves changing. Cool, crisp weather. Large bonfires and roasted foods. Halloween decorations fill shelves (with Christmas ones right behind them).

For me… Well, I live in Florida.

While the weather does lose some of it’s heavy, damp, humidity, it won’t cool for awhile. Scarves and cute sweaters will have to wait.

Even if I can’t feel the change in the weather I can enjoy it in other ways.

Bring on the Pumpkin!

I’m starting this year’s Great Pumpkin Search with breakfast.

Pepperidge Farm Pumpkin Spice Swirl Bread

Pepperidge Farm Pumpkin Spice Swirl Bread

I’ve seen this bread on the shelf for a few years and finally decided to give it a whirl.

This bread is enjoyable as toast with butter and a sprinkle of cinnamon. The pumpkin and spices, while present, are subtle.

If you’re looking for a hearty loaf of pumpkin bread, skip this. It’s fun for what it is and can be used to make other treats (like french toast sticks after the jump). If you’re looking for more pumpkin flavor, you will need to add pumpkin butter.

Because this version was “Thick Slice” I decided to make french toast sticks out of it.

These were excellent!

• Simply cut a couple slices of the Swirl bread into four sticks

• Coat the sticks in egg, milk, and pumpkin spice batter

• Fry until golden brown – about 3-4 minutes a side

Dipped in maple syrup, these sticks are a delight.

Another breakfast item I have seen for a few years and finally tried is

Philadelphia Pumpkin Spice Cream Cheese Spread

This cream cheese is amazing!

You want to feel like you’re eating a pumpkin cheesecake? At home? For breakfast?

This is your ticket.

Pumpkin blends smoothly with the cream cheese and spices. It’s sweet, without being too sweet.

Even my husband loved it.

I enjoy this on toasted English muffins. I bet you could use this spread to top pumpkin muffins, pumpkin bread, or pumpkin cupcakes. Mmm, now I’m getting ideas that are making me hungry.

I know there are more pumpkin breakfast finds out there. I will be searching for them, as well as other new pumpkin treats. Stay tuned for more additions to the Great Pumpkin Search 2015. Check out my previous finds in the archives.

Feel free to share your 2015 pumpkin treats in the comments or on facebook.
