Kick Off – The Great Pumpkin Search of 2013

Every year it seems that the pumpkin flavors pop up earlier and earlier.

This year’s first item for the Great Pumpkin Search was actually found in the middle of August. I discovered a wonderful Pumpkin Spice Tea at Barnes & Nobles.

First, it’s Tea, second it’s PUMPKIN Tea!!!

Obviously, I had to try a hot, venti immediately. I did have to wait the 5 minutes for the tea to brew, and then another couple minutes for the hot beverage to cool enough to sip, but it was well worth the wait!!

This is Harney & Sons Pumpkin Spice Tea. It’s an “Herbal Red Bush with Pumkin and Spices.” It is lightly spiced, with a subtle pumpkin flavor that complements the light-bodied Red tea. As soon as I joined my girlfriends at the table with this tea in hand they started sniffing the air saying, “it smells like fall.” And that it does.

This tea smells like roasted cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. You imagine yourself around a campfire, in cool weather, bundled in scarves, toasting marshmallows or waiting for your family around a large table, a turkey minutes away, and a pumpkin pie on reserve.

It was splendid. I liked it so much I purchased this tin so I could enjoy whenever I wanted. In fact, I’m sipping a cup as I write this post. Granted, the partly sunny 92° Florida heat forced me to pour this over ice with some almond milk, but it’s still delightful.

Speaking of iced beverages.

I recently wet to Starbucks, where they are joyfully selling their Pumpkin Spice Lattes, or as they now call them “PSL”s. It was pretty hot out, but I really wanted a PSL, so I ordered it iced with soy-milk. They asked if I wanted whipped cream (uh, yes!) and added cinnamon on top!

It was heavenly and beat the heat for sure.

This was my first time ordering a PSL iced. I was surprised by how much the pumpkin spice syrup came through even though the latte was chilled. It was a real treat.

Now if only the weather could corporate and we could bundle up next to a fire with a toasty pumpkin beverage. Shouldn’t be long now.
