For The Pin – DIY, Recipes, and Home Improvement

Follow Me on Pinterest

So I’ve found myself mildly addicted to pinterest.

The overall appeal is that I can pin recipes and projects into boards and then access these boards via the app on my smartphone. In other words I find myself in the kitchen looking through my pins for recipes on my phone. It is quite convenient since I don’t have to print a recipe or save recipe links to my desktop anymore. I absolutely love it! Also it’s image based sharing, which is very appealing to a visual person like myself.

So, in honor of the many things I have pinned and tried I would like to start a feature on my blog “For the Pin” where I share my Pin Wins and Pin Fails.

To start off these feature I will discuss a couple simple pins I’ve already implemented on a regular basis.

First a Pin Win DIY project

DIY Wrapping Paper Bow

Original Post is from Simply Julie

As you can see from my picture, this simple technique creates lovely bows out of scraps of wrapping paper. I have used this technique a few times (especially around Christmas) with very good results. Of course I can’t say that each bow has been perfect, but even the imperfect ones look nice.

Another Pin Win is this amazing Baked Oatmeal

Original recipe from So, How’s It Taste?

This recipe was delish! I love oatmeal, however my husband is not as keen because of the texture. I tried this baked version out and even my husband liked it. Now I did make enough to last a few days, but by the fourth day the oatmeal wasn’t so good. Luckily that was the last of it, so we just chucked it up to sitting in the fridge too long.

I do like that it was really quick to reheat. I just tossed portions into the toaster oven and it was almost like fresh baked. I would recommend eating this sooner rather than letting it sit around in the fridge, but that’s just my personal preference.

Obviously I just moved, so I have been pinning home related pins like crazy. One in particular was the Ombre Walls pin.

Original Post from Domestically Speaking

Unfortunately for me this did not go according to plan. I wouldn’t call it a complete Pin Fail, because I really didn’t have the time to paint the room as nicely as the instructions called for. Since it was just me and a whole room, the colors dried before I had a chance to blend them. I think I could do better if I went in small sections with the three colors.

After I painted the colors I went back over them with a sponge roller. It gave the walls a nice texture and helped pull the colors together. I then added little white clouds, which helped hide some imperfections and made the whole room look like the sky, which is exactly what I was going for. I am quite happy with how it turned out.
