Pumpkin, Pumpkin, Pumpkin!

As the month of October comes towards its end the Great Pumpkin Search continues!

Limited Edition Pumpkin Pie Pop-Tarts

I was very excited to try the Pumpkin Pie Pop-Tarts. A friend had told me about them last year, but I missed out on my opportunity, so when I found a box at Target, I had to snatch them up and give them a try.

I really don’t eat pop-tarts and I try to avoid anything with high fructose corn syrup and artificial flavors. Since these are pumpkin, I thought I would make an exception.

They were sweet and exactly how I remember pop-tarts tasting from my childhood. But unlike most of the pumpkin finds I share, these were a bit disappointing. The icing seemed to overwhelm the filling which made it difficult for me to detect anything that tasted like pumpkin pie.**

Since I have a rather large box of these (they only came in this size), I will give them another go and see if anything changes. If so, I will be sure to share my opinion here.

** EDIT ** So I tried these pop tarts again and I was pleased to find the filling did taste like pumpkin pie. It’s very subtle, but definitely there.

Limited Edition Pepperidge Farm Pumpkin Cheesecake Cookies

While at Target I found these Pepperidge Farm Pumpkin Cheesecake Cookies. These are amazing! I have to say pumpkin and cheesecake are my new favorite combination.

These cookies are very soft, which, even though it says on the bag they are soft is a bit strange at first. Most of the Pepperidge Farm cookies I eat are crunchy. When real pumpkin puree is used in baking it tends to make the baked goods extremely moist. These cookies are made with natural flavors and pumpkin puree.

The white chunks are pieces of cheesecake and are also soft. I almost expected the chunks to be hard. My husband thought they were white chocolate or macadamia nuts. I repeat the white chunks are deliciously savory cheesecake chunks.

My husband said these cookies tasted like Little Debbie Pumpkin Delights. Since I don’t recall ever eating a Pumpkin Delight, I had to find out if his comparison was true.

Our local grocer (Publix) carries these and I am certain they are widely available wherever Little Debbies are sold. I always seen their smiling faces on the cardboard box grinning eagerly at me in the grocery store, but I never bothered to try them, until now.

I had one and I can see where my husband drew the comparison. These Little Debbies taste very much like pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving da, only with cute smiling jack-o-lantern faces.

In my opinion the Pumpkin Cheesecake Cookies are much more decadent than the Pumpkin Delights. They both have a definite pumpkin taste and would go well with black tea or coffee, for a tasty snack.

Well that about wraps it up for the month of October.

I hope you have a Hauntingly Wonderful Halloween and enjoy whatever Pumpkiny treats come your way. The Great Pumpkin Search will continue until the end of fall, when gingerbread, eggnog, and peppermint take over.

Until Next Time,

Happy Halloween Everyone
