Great Pumpkin Search 2011 Recap

Although I have been away from the blog front for a bit, I have been continuing the Great Pumpkin Search, so I decided to do a quick recap of all the things I found this pumpkin season…

Pumpkin doughnut and coffee

Dunkin Donuts Pumpkin Lattes and Pumpkin Doughnut

First off, as promised, I did make it by Dunkin Donuts to try their Pumpkin Lattes and Pumpkin Doughnut. It was pretty good. The doughnut was very moist and very pumpkin-y. The lattes also had strong pumpkin flavors. Seperately they were delicious, however I found that having them together sort of muted the pumpkin flavors. Next time I will probably have a different flavor coffee so that the pumpkin doughnut stands out, or a different doughnut to complement the pumpkin latte. I will be trying this again next year, maybe even try Dunkin Donut’s Pumpkin Muffin.

Next I headed to McDonalds

McDonald's Pumpkin pie and Autumn Shake

October would not be complete without the McDonald’s Pumpkin Shake, which, is now called the “Autumn Shake” (it tastes the same no matter what it is called). I did try their Pumpkin Pie this year. It was pretty good for a turnover style pie and for the affordable price of 2 for $1.

Then I decided to take the Great Pumpkin Search into the grocery store. And as Target Luck would have, I struck “grocery gold!”

Pumpkin Spice Coffee and Pumpkin Pancakes

I found this wonderful selection of pumpkin spice coffee and pumpkin pancakes.

So the next morning I made this:

Yummy! Pumpkin Pancake and Pumpkin Coffee

Those pancakes are awesome!! I will be making them throughout the winter holidays, for sure. I added a dollop of whip cream to the pancake and the pumpkin coffee, then dusted them with pumpkin pie spice. Perfect! The addition of whip cream and spice really added to this meal. Again, I probably won’t mix the pumpkin coffee with pumpkin pancakes, but for this meal it actually tasted fine. I’m really not a big coffee drinker, so I couldn’t tell how much pumpkin was in my coffee. I think I will stick with teas in the future.

And for the most random Pumpkin item I found:

Pumpkin Pie Yogurt

Pumpkin Pie Yogurt at Target. It really did taste like pumpkin pie, but with the almost sour taste of yogurt. It was an interesting combination to-say-the-least. It was fat free, which meant it had sucralose, so I don’t think I will be getting this product again, as I try to stay away from artificial sweeteners.

There were a few items I tried that I didn’t take pictures of, like Pumpkin Pecan Cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. That was amazing! It was like pumpkin pie and pecan pie melded together to form one amazing pie, only it was cheesecake! I could barely taste the cream cheese. It was amazing!

I also tried the Pumpkin Scone and Pumpkin Bread from Starbucks. Both of those were very good. The Pumpkin Bread has a layer of nuts and seeds on the crust that was the perfect textural addition as well as flavor addition. The Pumpkin Scone was nice and moist on the inside and tasty, though I would have preferred a bit more spice.

Overall I would say I had a pretty successful run for the Great Pumpkin Search this year. Although Thanksgiving has passed, I still plan to keep looking for pumpkin treats.

I do have plans to bake some pumpkin desserts and side dishes, so hopefully I will get a few pictures and share the recipes with you.
